When is the best time to move

The busiest times for moving companies is during the summer months, Memorial Day to Labor Day. At the begining and end of these months, the volume of moves is extremely high.

When should I begin contacting moving companies for estimates?

Try to provide the moving companies with as much notice as possible, especially if you are moving during the busy season as noted above. 4 to 6 weeks from the actual move date is not too early for a Moving Consultant to come into your home for a visual survey. You should add even more time if this a company move as sometime the employer approval process takes some time. You should make it a goal to decide on which mover you will be using 4 weeks from your planned load date. These timeframes should be extended during the peak season which is May 15 through September 15.

How do I prepare my appliances for moving?

Appliances such as washers, dryers and refrigerators must be disconnected, and front load washers must have a stabilizers installed as this is recommend by all manufactures. Your Moving Consultant can explain how to these items need to be serviced. If you are unable to complete this service yourself Dunmar Moving has relationships with local service providers that handle this type of service.

Can I leave items in my dresser or desk drawers?

All loose items must be packed in boxes to prevent loss or damage. It is recommended that you leave the drawers empty, however if you choose you can leave linens and clothes in the drawers, please keep in mind that the furniture will still need to be moved so do not overload.

Can I pack and move my plants?

Dunmar Moving will not take your plants on a Out of State move. The stress and heat of being inside of the moving trailer usually causes them to die. Many states do not allow the entry of plants while other states will admit plants under certain conditions. There are some states that have no regulations at all. Be sure to understand your state's regulations prior to moving the plants in your own vehicle.
For moves within the State of Virginia Dunmar Moving will make every effort to accommodate the customers need but it will ultimately be up the driver’s decision on whether the plants can be transported in a safe and professional manner.

What should I do with my jewelry and other valuable items?

Dunmar Moving recommends that items of extraordinary value such as jewelry, currency, deeds, notes and stamp collections should NOT be included in the items to be shipped. Dunmar Moving strongly recommends that you carry irreplaceable and expensive articles with you or make other arrangements for their transport.

Items worth more than $100 per pound are considered to be articles of "extraordinary" value. To be assured that these articles are not limited to minimal liability, you need to select a Full Value Protection Option and complete the High Value Inventory Form. If you have any questions or concerns ask your Moving Consultant to provide you with an explanation of our process so that you can rest assure your items will be covered.

How are my items stored?

Boxes are stored on barcoded steel racking in secure warehouse.

How quickly can I get my files?

We offer multiple options for delivery and pickup the most common is our standard delivery, if you contact us in the morning we can have your items delivered or picked up by 5pm the same day, if you contact us after 12:000pm you will receive your items the next business day by noon.  Other options include Rush Delivery, items will be delivered within 2 hours of request during normal business hours M-F 8-5.  Emergency after hours service is also available.

We also offer file shredding/destruction, recycling console service, tape storage & rotation service, office and commercial moving and storage services, and exhibit services.

The convention center will not accept freight from my exhibitors. Is this something your company can assist with?

Yes Dunmar would be delighted to provide freight handling services for your exhibitors.  We will provide your exhibitors with the necessary forms and mailing labels for them to send freight directly to our warehouse.  We will then deliver it directly to their booth for them at the show. After the close of the show, they may choose to have us bring the freight back to our warehouse and ship if for them or they may make arrangements to ship it from show site.  Of course there will be a Dunmar Representative available to them before the show and during show move in and move out to assist with any questions they have regarding our freight services.

We are looking at a smaller venue. Do the booths have to be 10x10.

Absolutely not.  Booths can vary in size.  It is not unusual for us to set booths as small as 4’ deep and 6’ or 8’ wide.  Or you may choose to step away from a standard booth package all together and create and exhibit package that is unique to your event.  For example, maybe your vendors would like and 8’ x 2’ table with and 8’ back wall to hand a sign from, but they don’t really need side rails to divide the space.  Or maybe you just want to provide your exhibitors with a table and chairs.  A Dunmar Event Manager would be delighted to visit the event space with you and help you determine what will work best for your event.

Why are all trade shows blue and white?

It does seem like that sometimes doesn’t it?  We have a variety of drape and table skirt colors.  We can decorate your show in a one, two or three color scheme combination, all for the same low cost.
